The pilot shape has one job, which is to cover a lot of face with very little frame, and the two frames here do it in two materials. The MOS1 is metal: an aluminium-magnesium alloy that stays light, spring hinges that let the arms open past straight, and silicone nose pads you can pinch to fit. Its lens is 62 millimetres across on a 147-millimetre frame, which is a large pair, and on a narrow face it will look borrowed rather than worn.

The 70s square is what the shape became a decade later: a flat brow bar, a squared-off lens, a moulded polycarbonate frame with one-piece nose pads that do not catch hair. It is 60 millimetres across the lens and 143 across the frame, four millimetres less than the metal pilot, and it weighs twenty-two grams. It also comes in tortoise, clear brown and two-pair boxes, none of which the metal pilot offers. Both are polarized and UV400, and the choice between them is the choice between a frame that holds its shape and a frame you forget you are wearing.

Every colourway here is priced on its own; the GQUEEN shelves keeps the figures current and the till is what decides.

Questions about GQUEEN Pilot Sunglasses

Teardrop and square

Which GQUEEN pilot sunglasses fit a narrow face?

The 70s square, and even that is not small: 60 millimetres across the lens and 143 across the frame. If the pair you already wear says 52 or 54 inside the arm, both pilots here will sit wide, and the round MTS2 at 48 millimetres is the frame to look at instead.

Do GQUEEN pilot sunglasses have spring hinges?

The metal MOS1 does: the arms open past straight and come back, which is what lets a metal frame survive being pulled on and off one-handed. The 70s square has ordinary metal hinges on a moulded frame, and the give in that frame comes from the plastic itself.

Are the mirrored GQUEEN pilot lenses polarized too?

Yes. The blue mirror and the silver mirror on the MOS1 are a reflective coat over a polarized grey base, so the filter is still doing its work underneath. The tint you see in the mirror is not the tint you see through.
